KSM Music Theatre School FAME - The Musical Siamsa Tire - February 2005

Music Theatre Department

Operating at Junior, Intermediate and Advanced levels, KSM Music Theatre School is ideally suited for those who wish to get a foundation level training in the various aspects of popular music theatre. The core elements of Movement, Dance, Song, Drama, Elocution, Design (stage settings, costume, make-up, props and lighting) are integrated in a production/platform based, group dynamic which is both purposeful and fun.

The School is the 'original of the species' in Kerry being founded under the aegis of the Kerry School of Music in 1988. Since then it has played a leading role in presenting the Kerry premieres of such hits as FAME - The Musical, Les Miserables (School Edition), Disney's High School Musical as well as a string of old favourites including The Sound of Music, Oliver, The King and I, Annie, My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly and classic Gilbert and Sullivan operettas - The Mikado and HMS Pinafore. In conjunction with the School Voice Department and Chamber Choir the Music Theatre Department has staged the classic Viennese operettas The Merry Widow and Die Fledermaus.

Emphasis is placed on full-scale productions rather than excerpts and individual tuition is encouraged among those students who display a pronounced flare in any of the core activities.

From September 2008 forward students will be able to accumulate credits and graded certification in Vocal Performance, Dance, Action Song and Soliloquay and Dialogue.

Kerry School of Music and Performing Arts is a registered company (No. 144169), a charity (CHY. No: 10046), recognised under the Finance Acts and a Scientific Body.
