The new term has gotten off to a flying start and we are so pleased to see such great numbers turning out for the various ensembles on offer throughout the county.

In conjunction with Creative Ireland and Kerry County Council, youth choirs are being run by Aidan O’Carroll and Anna Connolly in Tralee and Listowel respectively. There are over 30 members in each choir and having so many talented young voices coming together simply has to be heard to be believed! Everyone is having lots of fun and we look forward to hearing both choirs perform very soon.

Moving to Killarney, the first cello ensemble rehearsal of the year took place on Wednesday 11th October. Led by Cork School of Music graduate, Maria O’Connor, the team of cellists will meet once a month to prepare repertoire from Piazzolla to Lady Gaga. This ensemble will perform in February but many of the members will also perform both individually and in smaller chamber groups throughout the year.

The Kerry Chamber Choir are busily preparing extracts from Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for two concerts in December at the Friary, Killarney. Christmas Oratorio has not yet been performed in Kerry and the KCC are delighted to be bringing this charming work to audiences for the first time. Guest soloists will be announced closer to the time.
